Culturally Responsive Teaching
I am a ceramic artist and an art educator. A lifelong learner and creator, I need these things to feel whole. I love to solve problems, and to come up with new and different solutions. I am as excited for the journey as I am for the destination. I believe there are no mistakes and there is never one answer in art, just opportunities to learn something new. Mistakes are not failures; they are different solutions. Some solutions work better than others, but they are all worthwhile. The solutions are endless. I try to impress this joy of learning upon my students.
As an art educator, it is my goal is to collaborate with community, connect with my students, facilitate learning, foster creativity and help them to grow as citizens and appreciators of art. I believe that all of my students are important, and that they all have something special and important to contribute. Our differences, experiences and views are to be recognized, discussed, and celebrated and shared to grow as individuals and as a society. I learn from my students every day and I am excited to see what they are going to teach me while I am teaching them—a different perspective, a different technique, an opportunity for growth.

I built a soda kiln in my backyard to remind me I needed to make time for art every time I walked out my backdoor. This platter is one of my first successful pieces out of the kiln.
These soda fired tumblers were made for my uncle and feature black underglaze.
